DANVILLE — Donald Paul Bickhart, 68, of 210 Mowery St., passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born June 22, 1944, in Danville, a son of the late Charles W. and Helen B. (Barnhart) Bickhart. He was married to the former Connie E. Reibsome, who survives.
He graduated from Ridley Park High School in Ridley Park, Pa., in 1962.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1962 and served two tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded many medals. Donald was honorably discharged in September 1973.
He was a numismatist and started his own business, Don’s Coin Exchange in Danville, during which time he graduated from the Diamond Exchange School in New York City, earning his degree as a certified gemologist. He retired in 1998.
Donald was a member of American Legion Post 40, Danville, and the Danville Elks.
He also was a member of the National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed collecting coins and especially Civil War tokens.
His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Keith Burkland, and two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Angela Bickhart and Anthony and Shelly Bickhart, all of Danville; eight grandchildren, Brianne and Addie Jo Burkland, Janae Van Buskirk and her husband, Westley, Makaela and Jacob Bickhart and Jessica, Jalen and Jordan Bickhart; one sister, MaryAnn Bickhart Lutz, of Danville; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles “Bick” Bickhart and Thomas Bickhart.
A special friend, Demian German, who faithfully took Donald on walks, also survives him.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 306 Lombard Ave., Danville, followed by a celebration of Donald’s life at noon with the Rev. Ronald S. French officiating.
Entombment with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 40 honor guard will follow in the Columbarium in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville.
