ALLENWOOD — Miriam T. Huratiak, 90, of 84 Railroad St., Allenwood, formerly of Lewisburg, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
She was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Graterford, a daughter of the late Noah and Martha (Delp) Tyson. On June 21, 1948, she married the Rev. Glenn R. Huratiak. Together they celebrated 26 years of marriage before his passing January 8, 1975.
Miriam attended the former Philadelphia College of the Bible, now Philadelphia Biblical University and studied linguistics at the University of Oklahoma.
Miriam dedicated her life in service to the Lord in the “Youth for Christ” ministry as a missionary in Angola, Africa and as a minister’s wife in the Evangelical United Brethren, Bible Fellowship and United Methodist denominations.
Following her husband’s death she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg, until she retired to reside in Allenwood with her family.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Truda Huratiak, of Allenwood; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol Ward, of Prospect, Kentucky and Lori and Scott Swank, of Annville; five grandchildren, Tonya Wilhelm and her husband Benjamin, Cammie Atwater and her husband Mark, Jesse Swank, Sarah Swank and Rachel Swank; and three great-grandchildren, Kara, Evelyn and Dean Wilhelm.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one half brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Mae Swartley and one sister and brother-in-law, Perma and Daniel Stiteler.
Friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Community Christian Church, 16606 U.S. Rt. 15, Allenwood, where the funeral will be held at 1 p.m. with her son Pastor Dennis Huratiak, officiating.
Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Cemetery, Catawissa.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests donations in Miriam’s name be made to Community Christian Church, P. O. Box 34, Allenwood, PA 17810.
