Robert A. McCoy, 88, Lewisburg

LEWISBURG — Robert Andrew McCoy, 88, of 3 E. Sycamore Place, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.

A native of Iowa, he was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Boone, a son of the late Edward L. and Ruth (Cotton) McCoy. He was married to the former Ernestine Walburn and his death breaks a marital union of 67 years.

Bob served with the Navy in World War II aboard the USS Cronin and during the Korean War aboard the USS VanValkenburg. He then served in the reserves from 1953-1960.

He was employed as a correctional officer from 1947-1974 for the Department of Justice at the Federal Prison in Lewisburg, and retiring from Allenwood. He owned and operated RAM Lock and Key in Lewisburg from 1966-1996.

Bob was a life member of the Lewisburg Post American Legion and the Montandon Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was active in the Susquehanna Council Boy Scouts of America from 1959-1970 and served as Linntown Troop 538 Scoutmaster from 1962-1965. He held the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. He bowled in many different leagues and had served as league secretary.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie McCoy, of Gaithersburg; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Josephine Hacker.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lewisburg Cemetery with the Rev. J. Marlin Rimert and Chaplain Theodore L. Cockley officiating. Military honors will be by Lewisburg area veterans.

A memorial service will be held later at the Commons at the convenience of the family.

The family will provide flowers and asks that donations in Bob’s memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701, or to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th St., New York, NY 10032.

Funeral arrangements are by the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg.
