MILLSBORO, Del. — Robert L. “B.T.” Thompson, 70, of Millsboro, formerly of Liverpool, Pa., passed away Monday, March 4, 2013, at his home with his wife and family by his side.
He was born Sept. 24, 1942, in Harrisburg, Pa., a son of the late Russell I. and Carrie (Shanabrough) Thompson. On Feb. 2, 1986, he married the former Irene F. Bowersox, who survives. They celebrated 27 years of marriage.
He was a graduate of Cedar Cliff High School, Harrisburg and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Bob retired from State Auto Mutual Insurance Company where he had been an adjuster in the Harrisburg area for 32 years.
He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 364, Liverpool and a member of the American Legion Post 28, Millsboro, a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Middletown, Pa.; and the Liverpool Sportmen’s Club and Amvets.
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Dee Phillips, of York, Pa., Paul Fisher and his wife, Jessie, of Ohio, and David and Deborah Thompson; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mickey M. and Jerry Wehler and Nancy L. and Wes Beard, all of Mechanicsburg, Pa.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Josh Fisher.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Montandon Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silver Side Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
