DANVILLE — The Rev. Calvin R. Beveridge, 88, of 209 E. Front St., entered into glory Saturday morning, March 2, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Primrose, a son of the late David R. and Elizabeth (Jones) Beveridge.
He graduated from Cass Township High School in 1943. During World War II, he served in the civilian end of the Signal Corps. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Bob Jones University in 1949, followed by his master’s degree in 1951. While at Bob Jones University, he was a graduate assistant in the history department and assistant to the dean of men from l949-51. His pastorates included Copiague Union Church in Copiague, Long Island, N.Y., from 1953-61, and Park Bible Baptist Church in Pennsville, N.J., from 1961-66; and he faithfully served as pastor at First Baptist Church, Danville, from 1970-90.
Pastor Beveridge was director of public relations at Lancaster Bible College, Lancaster, from 1966-70. He served on the national board of directors of the Conservative Baptist Association and the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society. He also served as corporation member of the Calvary Retirement Homes in Lancaster and as a member of the President’s Council at Philadelphia College of the Bible.
Pastor Beveridge was a passionate man fully devoted to the God he loved, his faith, his family and the flock he served. He was an avid Penn State football fan and Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed playing golf in his earlier years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Carradice Beveridge, whom he married on June 18, 1949; two sons and daughters-in-law, C. Robin and Linda Beveridge, of Lancaster, and Gary R. and Kathy Beveridge, of Northumberland; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol R. and Ronald Beabout, of Cedar Grove Wis.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, David G. Beveridge, in 2010.
Relatives and friends will be received from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 20 Brookside Drive, Danville, followed by a memorial service at noon with the Rev. Dr. Harry H. Wonderland officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dawes E. Dunham.
Burial will be in Columbia Hill Cemetery, Danville.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Missions Fund.
