MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS — Robert W. Andrew Jr., 89, of Mount Pleasant Mills, formerly of Ephrata, went home peacefully on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at his home.
Robert was born Feb. 17, 1924, in East Earl Township, Lancaster County, a son of the late Robert W. Sr. and Juliette C. (Defibaugh) Andrew. On Aug. 10, 1946, he married the former Monique O. Cordeau, who survives. His passing breaks a loving marital union of 66 years.
He was a 1942 graduate of New Holland High School and served in the Army Air Corps. He was a veteran of World War II. He was awarded five Bronze Stars. His troop carrier squadron was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation at an air strip in liberated France.
Robert retired after 35 years from RCA, Lancaster.
He was a member of New Holland Church of the Nazarene and attended Selinsgrove Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ephrata.
Robert enjoyed baseball, bowling, photography, traveling, telling jokes and word puzzles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Roselyne M. and Joel K. Beiler, of Mount Pleasant Mills; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Betty A. (Beck) Andrew, of Ephrata; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Justin P. Andrew, living at Conestoga View, and Almetta Andrew, living at Denver Nursing Home; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean Y. and Edwin S. Guest, of New Hope; one sister-in-law, Mary A. Andrew, of New Holland; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded by two sisters, Loreen Andrew, in infancy, and Phyllis N. Linton and her husband, John A., and one brother, Merlin K. Andrew.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 10 to noon Saturday at the Paul L. Gravenor Home for Funerals Inc., 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, followed by the funeral at noon with the Rev. Kenneth Mingledorff officiating.
Burial will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata.
The George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, is assisting the Paul L. Gravenor Home for Funerals Inc., Ephrata.
