Rev. James I. “Jim” Ranck. 92, Shamokin Dam

SHAMOKIN DAM — The Rev. James I. “Jim” Ranck. 92, of Shamokin Dam, formerly of Kissimmee, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.

He was born June 8, 1920, in Millmont, the son of the late Irvin and Clara (Dorman) Ranck. He was married to Alverta (Moyer) Ranck, who preceded him in death. He later married Dessie (Romig, Walter) Ranck, who also preceded him in death.

Jim graduated from Hartley Township High School. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He was ordained through the American Evangelical Christian Churches, serving at St. Peter’s Independent Bible Church, Strawser’s Church and Niemond’s Independent Church. He previously was employed at Wood-Mode in Kreamer and Weis Markets in Selinsgrove.

James was a past chaplain and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631, Selinsgrove.

Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially loved spending time with his nephew.

He is survived by his nephew, Richard W. Stamm and wife Sylvia, of Liverpool; three stepdaughters, Betty Houtz, of Milton, Nancy Bowersox, of Middleburg, and Debra Chamberlin, of Shamokin Dam; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and his special friend, Lillian Arndt, of Shamokin Dam.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Ranck and Barbara Jean (Ranck, Stamm) Aucker.

Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, where the funeral will follow at 11 with the Rev. Thomas Adams Jr. officiating.

Burial, with military honors accorded by the Midd West Veterans Council, will follow in Zion Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701, or to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Suite F, Williamsport, PA 17701.
