Jack L. Leininger, 77, Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE — Jack L. Leininger, 77, of Windridge Place, went for his final inspection with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at ManorCare, Sunbury.

He was born Aug. 5, 1935, in Sunbury, a son of the late Marvin James and Annie O. (Pope) Leininger. On Nov. 5, 2001, he married the former Grace R. Rivera who survives.  

Jack attended Selinsgrove High School.  

Mr. Leininger retired from the Marine Corps. with the rank of Captain after 20 years of service and two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed as the warden of the Northumberland County Prison, worked for Celotex, Sunbury, became the warden of the Snyder County Prison, had employment with Valley Toyota, Selinsgrove and most recently was a bus driver for Sharitz Bus Service, Selinsgrove.

He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Selinsgrove.

Jack loved being outdoors hunting, enjoying his horses, and had his own dog kennel where he trained bird dogs.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jack L. Jr. and Jaydell Leininger, of Sunbury, Shane Leininger, of Williamsport; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda M. and Gilbert D. Wolfe ,of Sunbury, Kyla Leininger, of Williamsport; one granddaughter and her husband, Jenna Lee and Sergeant Troy J. Hubler; one great-grandson, Jacob B. Hubler, all of North Carolina, and one brother and sister-in-law, Robert Edward and Marjorie Leininger, of Florida.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley David Wolfe, and his step-mother, Thelma (Brouse) Leininger.

Friends and family may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, where the funeral service will begin at 10 with Father Daniel Powell officiating.

Burial with military honors accorded by the Marine Corps Reserve Center, American Legion Post 25, and the VFW Post 6631 will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.

Contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth St. NW, Washington, DC 20006-3517.
