NEW BERLIN — Mary E. Moyer, 82, of Hazel Street, passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, Jan. 14, 2013, at her home.
She was born May 9, 1930, in Freeburg, the daughter of the late Albert and Marguerite (Kerstetter) Klingler. On March 1, 1952, she married S. Richard Moyer, who preceded her in death on April 15, 1988.
Mary was a 1947 graduate of Lewisburg High School.
She was the bookkeeper and assisted her husband in the operation of Pleasant View Egg Farm, Winfield.
Mary was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, New Berlin, and its adult Sunday school class and was active in the Called to Care group. She was a member of the New Berlin Homemakers and the New Berlin Heritage Association and was a faithful helper at the dinners in the New Berlin Fire Company. She also played in card clubs at Winfield and New Berlin.
Mary was an accomplished seamstress and spent much of her time quilting and sewing. She loved to travel and was all over the world. She was an avid Penn State fan and also enjoyed bingo and boating.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph C. and Sharon Moyer, of Winfield; two daughters and one son-in-law, the Rev. Elaine C. Moyer, of Ickesburg, and Linda M. and Robert Spigelmeyer, of Winfield; Maria Teresa Azevedo, of Brazil, a foreign exchange student who had lived in the Moyer home and whom Mary thought of as a daughter; and five grandchildren, Bret A. Moyer and fiancee Mary Bolig, Daniel R. Moyer, Mary R., Rachel I. and Robert S. Spigelmeyer.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Joseph Moyer Jr., in 2006, and her stepmother, Lenore Moyer.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, New Berlin, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Dawn Marie Meier officiating.
Burial will be in New Berlin Cemetery.
