John Franklin Maurer, 89, Camp Hill

— CAMP HILL — John Franklin Maurer, 89, of Lower Allen Township, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born March 1, 1922, in New Castle, the son of the late Charles David and Mary Alice (Foust) Maurer. He was married to Ruth Rachael Maurer, who preceded him in death.

John was a 1939 graduate of Coal Township High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II with deployments to Trinidad and Greenland. He earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1949 and a master’s degree in 1950 from Bucknell University, Lewisburg.

In 1951, he was employed by the Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and in 1952, he attended Oakridge School of Reactor Technology. He was employed by Link Aviation, Binghamton, N.Y., AMP Inc., Harrisburg, Gannet Fleming, Camp Hill, and retired from the Navy Depot, Mechanicsburg, in 1996.

John enjoyed teaching Sunday school at West Shore Baptist Church, sang in the choir, played the violin, did photography and created the “Life of Christ” audio-visual in the Stained Glass program that he shared for more than 40 years. He belonged to the Widows and Widowers at Christ Community and Forever Young at Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ann Marie and Darryl Grable, of Mechanicsburgand one grandson, Jason Charles.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert David Maurer.

Graveside services with military honors in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury will be announced at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
