Priscilla H. Reade, 87, Selinsgrove

— SELINSGROVE — Priscilla H. Reade, 87, of Rolling Green Drive, passed away early Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at her home.

She was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Seattle, Wash., the daughter of the late Adm. Wesley McL. and Priscilla Alden (Redgrave) Hague. On Sept. 19, 1942, she married John Moore Reade III, who preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2003.

Priscilla graduated in 1940 from Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Va., and attended Stephen’s College in Columbia, Mo.

She worked previously as an editor for the Union County Journal and The Daily Item in the Selinsgrove office.

She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who adored spending time with her family.

In Priscilla’s early years, she had a tremendous love of the stage and was involved in local theatrical groups, including Prather’s Productions and the Valley Players. Priscilla was a member of the Actors Guild and appeared in plays such as “Front Page,” “South Pacific” and “Harvey.”

Priscilla lived life to its fullest and did not let the adversities get her down. She had determination which showed in her weekly exercise program. She enjoyed watching TV, especially sports, and was an avid Phillies fan.

Priscilla is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Priscilla R. and Francis P. Newbert and Corinne Margaret Reade, all of Selinsgrove; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Moore IV and Virginia K. Reade, of Lancaster, Ohio, and Wesley Hague and Shannon K. Reade, of Gallatin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Brendan Reade and Sharon Reade Boyden, both of Columbus, Ohio, Priscilla Newbert Grill, of Scranton, Christopher Francis Newbert, of Levittown, Julia McArthur Reade and Elizabeth Ann Parker, both of Seattle, and Will Reade and Maggie Reade, of Gallatin, Tenn.: and great-grandchildren, Priscilla Grill, of Scranton, Olivia Reade, Sophia Boyden, Xavier Boyden, Sylvia Boyden, Isaac Boyden and Gabriel Boyden, all of Lancaster, Ohio, and Aavi Bass and Kendra Parker, both of Seattle.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Lawrence Reade, on Oct. 13.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, 429 N. Eighth St., Selinsgrove, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Eric Funk officiating.
