NAPLES, Fla. — Dr. Peter John Cera Jr., MD, 74, of Naples and formerly of Danville, Pa., passed away on Monday May 17, 2010, at his home in Naples, surrounded by his family.
He was born July 25, 1935, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., a son of the late Peter John Cera Sr. and Mary Sovine Cera.
He graduated from G.A.R. Memorial High School, the University of Scranton, and Jefferson Medical College Hospital in Philadelphia. He then served in the Navy.
Dr. Cera later made Danville his home with his beloved wife of 36 years, Mary Ann Cera who preceded him in death in 2001.
He practiced as a Pathologist at the Geisinger Medical Center.
An avid sports fan and referee, doting father, adoring husband, and esteemed friend, Dr. Cera gave his life immeasurably to his family, his profession, and Danville. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by four sisters, Viola Whitlock and Mary Jablonski, both of Rockville, Md., Rose Morgans, of Mountaintop, Pa., and Gloria
Garcia, of San Leandro, Calif.; one brother, Paul A. Cera, of Macungie, Pa.; five sons, Peter Cera, of Raleigh, N.C., George Cera. of Orlando, Fla., Paul Cera, of West Hartford, Conn., Michael Cera, of Bossier City, La., and James Cera, of Amherst, Mass.; two daughters, Dr. Susan Cera, of Naples, and Karen Cera, of Los Angeles, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Danville.
Those wishing to give remembrance may make a donation in memory of Dr. Peter J. Cera, MD to the Danville Area Community Center, P.O. Box 125, Danville, PA 17821, which Doc Cera helped build with his wife, or to the Danville Ronald McDonald House Attn: Development Office, P.O. Box 300, Danville, PA 17821, because Doc loved kids.
Great appreciation and thanks to the staff at Physician's Regional Medical Center and Naples Community Hospital, Fuller Funeral Home of Florida, Brady Funeral Home of Danville, Visiting Angels, and Avow for their dignified respect, endearing care, and professional support.
