NEW COLUMBIA — Anson A. Dershem, 92, of River Road, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Kramm Health and Rehabilitation Center, Milton.
Born in New Columbia on Nov. 14, 1919, he was the son of the late Quay and Dora E. (Murray) Dershem. He was married to the former M. Arlene Bittner, who survives.
He was a 1937 graduate of Milton High School. He was an Army veteran serving in France and England during World War II. Anson was in the Battle of the Bulge.
He worked as a welder for Merck in Riverside for 28 years. He also owned Dershem Furniture Store in Watsontown and worked at AC&F in Milton and Axman Anderson in Williamsport. He worked in Newark and Jersey City, N.J., shipyards during the war.
He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Columbia. He was a charter member of the Cove Road Hunting Camp and a charter member of the White Deer Township Fire Company. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Milton, and a former member of New Columbia Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife, Anson is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Linda Dershem, of New Columbia; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Jean and James Bolich, of Milton; four grandchildren, Wendy Beaver, Cammy Guffey, Keith Dershem and Shannon Kanjorski; two stepgrandchildren, Melissa Polack and Heather Douglass, and four great-great-grandchildren, Alex, Keeley, Hayden and Koy.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 257 Third St., New Columbia, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Robert O. Rice officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 51, White Deer, PA 17887.
Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St.. Milton.
