Mary Jane Rowe, 96, Lewisburg

LEWISBURG — Mary Jane (Hertzog) Rowe, 96, formerly of 114 S. 15th St., passed away early Friday morning, Oct. 12, 2012, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village where she had resided since July of 2010.

A native of West Virginia, she was born in Grafton on Jan. 26, 1916, a daughter of the late Floyd Alvin and Bessie Agnus (Strother) Hertzog. On Sept. 4, 1937, in Hagerstown, Md., she married Robert Luther Rowe who preceded her in death July 23, 1993.

Mary Jane was a graduate of Lewisburg High School in 1935. She was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed bingo, the Phillies, country music, musical activities at the nursing home, especially the visits and singing of the Penn View Singers. She was also quite fond of Inky the nursing home mascot cat.

Mary Jane is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Lee Miller, of Lewisburg; six nephews, and one niece.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Hertzog, John B. Hertzog, and Allen Hertzog; and one sister, Cynthia Elizabeth Groover.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Lewisburg Cemetery with the Rev. John H. Shaw III officiating.

The family will provide flowers and asks that donations in Mary Jane’s memory be made to any animal shelter of the donor’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are by the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg.
