MIDDLEBURG — Warren H. “Bud” Steininger, 92, formerly of Shuman Street, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
He was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Middleburg, a son of the late Joseph L. and Margaret (Steffen) Steininger. On April 11, 1942, in Winchester, Va., he married the former Charlotte C. Bailey, who preceded him in death on April 2, 2012.
Bud attended Middleburg High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 1050th Army Air Force Base Unit.
He had been employed by the Middleburg Silk Mill, Zechman Bros. Trucking and Tharp Construction and retired in 1983 after 37 years of service from Faylor-Middlecreek Construction.
Bud was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Middleburg, American Legion Post 957, New Berlin, Heiser-Hoffman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5640, Middleburg, and the Paxton Rod and Gun Club. He was a charter member of the World War II Memorial and a life member of the Reliance Hose Company, Middleburg, the NRA and the AARP.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia A. Hoke, of Freeburg, and Linda L. and Neal Ort, of Milroy; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Darwin E. and Darlene Steininger, of Selinsgrove, and Dennis J. Steininger and companion Yvonne Steffy, of Middleburg; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Edwin “Johnny” Steininger, of Akron, Ohio; and one sister, Mae Milstead, of Danville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Gary Hoke.
Friends and family will be received from noon to 2 Thursday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 2 with the Rev. William D. Jones officiating.
Burial with military honors by the Middle West Veterans Organization will be in Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg.
