LEWISBURG — Marlene M. Mensch, 75, of 1008 Stein Lane, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg.
Born in Trevorton on March 12, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Marlin H. and Anna (Lasitzke) Shovlin. She was married to David E. Mensch for 38 years.
Marlene was a 1955 graduate of Coal Township High School, Shamokin.
She was employed as an executive secretary for Tracy-Locke Advertising and Public Relations Inc., Owens Enterprises Inc., and Northern Natural Gas Company, all of Denver, Colo.; also Russell, Gibson and VonDohlen, West Hartford, Conn.; Pepsi-Cola Company, Hartford, Conn.; Credit Bureau of Central Pa. and Edwin D. Mensch Agency, Lewisburg.
Marlene was the secretary for the 1976 Bicentennial. She was a member of the National Secretaries Association from 1969 to 1985 and attended their 1975 convention in Montreal. Marlene served as the corresponding secretary for the Denver chapter from 1970 to 1971.
She was secretary of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Pastor Parish Committee from 1980 to 1981 and was chairman from 1982 to 1985.
Marlene co-chaired the Lewisburg Auxiliary of Evangelical Community Hospital Annual Turkey Dinner in 1976 and 1977.
In addition to her husband, Marlene is survived by two stepsons, Scott A. Mensch and wife Dorothy Mensch, of Muncy, and Jeffrey D. Mensch, of Glacier, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Michelle DeBernardi and husband Patrick, of Rocky Paint, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Tyler Mensch, Darren Mensch, Kala Mensch, Danielle DeBernardi and Dominique DeBernardi; nephews, Barry Shovlin and wife Monica, of Sunbury, Shawn P. Shovlin and wife Nicole, of Sunbury, Jonathan M. Shovlin and wife Bridget, of Shamokin, and Daniel P. Shovlin, of New York City; grandnieces and nephews, Kayleigh, Cassidy, Shannon, Molley, Owen, Tierney, Kellen, Lauren, Barry, Emily, Meghan; and two brothers, Roland H. Shovlin and his friend Barbara Clements, of Shamokin, and Marlin B. Shovlin and wife Salley, of Sunbury; stepnieces and nephews, Cynthia and Eric Brouse, and William and Christine Heim; stepgreat-nieces and nephews, Matthew and Grace Heim, Timothy and Jerri Brouse, Thomas and Jerri Brouse, and Christopher and Angie Brouse; stepgreat-great-nieces and nephews, Sidney, Halle and Avery Brouse, Thomas Brouse, Ellie Brouse, Ryan Brouse, William Heim, Ben Heim and Natalia Heim.
Friends and relatives will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 42 S. Fourth St., Lewisburg, followed by the funeral at 10:30 with the Rev. Judi A. Dunkelberger officiating. There will be a luncheon at the church at 11:30.
Burial will follow at 2:30 in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Trevorton.
