NORTHUMBERLAND — William J. Engle, 89, of Northumberland, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, in Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
He was born March 7, 1923, in Sunbury, a son of the late Samuel and Myrtle (Campbell) Engle. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Mary Romberger, in 1977 and by his second wife, the former Anne Allison, in 2007.
William formerly owned and operated a dairy farm in Rockefeller Township, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, Sunbury, and a member of the Northumberland Gun Club and the NRA.
William enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by six children and their spouses, Joyce and Paul Bartholomew, of Danville, Dianne and David Hartman, of Jersey Shore, Cecelia and Robert Witcoski, of Sunbury, Janis and Dana Catherman, of Selinsgrove, Ora and William Skumanich, of Allentown, and William Jr. and Carol Engle, of Northumberland; eight grandchildren, Janis Bartholomew, Paul Bruner, Dana Catherman II, Shelby Skumanich, Justin Engle, Adam Catherman, Matthew Hartman and Jacob Hartman; 11 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Alta Winegardner, of Northumberland, Lois Swineford, of Milton, and Carl Engle, of Spokane, Wash.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sylvan and Ivan Engle, and three sisters, Ethel Watts, Ora Hovey and Ina Ross.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11.
Interment will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
In lieu of flowers, donations in William’s memory may be made to the Northumberland Gun Club, 400 Comfort Road, Northumberland, PA 17857.
