WYOMISSING — Gertrude K. Moorhouse, 100, of The Highlands, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013.
She was a daughter of the late William H. and Nellie J. (Krebs) Kuebler, of Sunbury. She was married to Lt. Stanley Moorhouse, of the Navy, who preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Sunbury High School and a 1933 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where she received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English.
Gertrude enjoyed a distinguished career in teaching, first as a high school English teacher and then as a fifth-grade elementary school teacher in the Governor Mifflin School District, retiring in 1966.
Gertrude had a profound love for good literature, classical music and the Holy Bible. She thrived in her late years with a settled, quiet committed confidence in Christ and His promise of eternal life with Him.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth M. and Dr. Richard B. Rhodes, of Ithaca, N.Y.; grandchildren, Heather R. Preston and husband William H., of Atlanta, Ga., Dr. Hilary J. Rhodes, of New York, N.Y., Abigail R. Brown and husband David J., of Portland, Ore., Richard B. Rhodes Jr. and fiancee Aurora Compton, of Atlanta, and Victoria M. Rhodes, of Charlotte, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Harrison, Pierce and Harper Preston, of Atlanta, and Henry and Lauren Brown, of Portland; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Kuebler, and three sisters, Helen Lucille, Janet Angstadt and Mary Anne Greis.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shillington.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Lancaster.
In lieu of flowers, people may make gifts in Gertrude’s memory to her church, Grace Evangelical Lutheran, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
