SUNBURY — Donald A. Karge, 66, of Sunbury, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, in ManorCare Health Services.
He was born May 6, 1946, in Sunbury, a son of the late Donald N. and Charlotte R. (London) Karge. He was married to the former Helen Walter, who preceded him in death.
Donald was a 1965 graduate of Sunbury High School and served his country during the Vietnam War in the Navy. He received two Purple Hearts for his service as a gunman’s mate.
He was employed as a bartender in many places, but last worked for the Rescue Hose Company in Sunbury.
He was a member of American Legion Post 201 and the Americus Hose Company, both of Sunbury.
Donald had a great sense of humor and enjoyed reading, music and doing crossword puzzles.
He is survived by one brother, John T. Karge and his companion, Kathy Paul, of Sunbury; one sister, Charlotte Miller; three nieces, Jennifer Wells, of Hummels Wharf, Jessica Ackley and Morgan Karge, both of Sunbury; one nephew, John Karge II, of Sunbury; eight great-nieces and nephews; three stepchildren, Rick, Jerry and Stacey; and cousins.
Donald requested that he be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Gunter, of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Sunbury, officiating.
His ashes will be buried at sea at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Donald’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
