LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — Royce LaVon Bailey Jr., 61, of Little River, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Royce, known by some as Von, was born in Dublin, Miss., in 1951.
He was part of the National Guard in his youth and at different points in his life lived in Washington, D.C., New York, Texas, Mexico, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
He held many jobs over the years, but spent most of his life in law enforcement. His favorites were working undercover for the D.C. Metro Police, the FBI, fire chief of McEwensville, Pa., bounty hunting in Texas and Mexico, managing Knoebels Groves in Elysburg, Pa., and being part of local law enforcement in Myrtle Beach.
Royce was an avid golfer, storyteller and gun enthusiast and spoke fluent Spanish, which he taught himself. He was generous with his friends and family, had the gift of gab and made friends wherever he lived.
He is survived by one son, Von Bailey, of Elimsport, Pa.; two daughters, Amanda Bailey, of Selinsgrove, Pa., and Melissa Adlersberg, of Royersford, Pa.; two grandchildren, Devin and Kaytlin Bailey; one brother, Glenn Bailey, of Mississippi; as well as many good friends all over the country and especially in South Carolina.
His story and psyche were complex, and even though we may never know the whole truth, he will remain one of the most interesting men in the world to us.
Funeral services will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to LifePoint Inc., 3950 Faber Place Drive, Suite 400, Charleston, SC 29405.
Condolences can be posted at http://www.burroughsfh.com/new_view.php?id=1971656, at the Burroughs Funeral Home and Cremations Services, of Murrells Inlet, S.C.
