MILTON — Lois Schmidt Bergenstock, 88 of Wilson Circle, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio on Dec. 11, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Frank and Margaret (Birtciel) Schmidt. Lois was married in 1946 to Paul Varano who preceded her in death in 1965; she then married, in 1975, E. Fred Bergenstock who survives.
Lois was a 1943 graduate of Shaker Heights High School and a 1946 graduate of Findlay University, both in Ohio. She worked as a caseworker in Northumberland County retiring in 1985.
She was a former member of the First Church of God in Mount Carmel. She enjoyed cross-stitching, traveling, and spending winters in North Carolina. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Fred; a daughter and son-in-law, David and Jane Varano, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Kevin Baum, of Spring Grove, Pa.; a sister, Shirley Sullivan, of Salisbury, Md.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her first husband Paul, and a sister, Virginia Wahlstrom.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lois’ name can be made to Meals on Wheels, c/o Riverwoods, 3201 River Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837 or to Spring Grove Scholarship Foundation, Box 66, Spring Grove, PA 17362.
Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, Milton.
