Robert J. Fitzgerald, 88, Milton

MILTON — Robert John Fitzgerald, 88, of Carpenter Road, formerly of Sidney, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at his home.

He was born March 23, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Harry W. and Kathryn (Buddenhagen) Fitzgerald. He was married to the former Mary Jane Kuster and his death breaks a marital union of 59 years.

He had served in the Navy during World War II and the Army during the Korean War.  

Bob was a self-employed roofer retiring in 2005.  

In earlier years he was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.  

Bob enjoyed working in his garden and making wood crafts.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Joseph Cotroneo, of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Donna and Greg Walter, of Milton; seven grandchildren, Dr. Chris Cotroneo and his wife, Katie, Dr. Laurie Mauger and her husband, Greg, Bryan Walter and his wife, Jill, Jon Walter, Steve Cotroneo and his wife, Meghan, Ashlee Walter and her fiancé, Jesse Neitz, and Matt Cotroneo; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Harry, Albert and Frederick.

Following Bob’s wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton.
