Eugene A. Rathfon, 87, Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE — Eugene A. Rathfon, 87, of Fisher Road, passed away at 3:17a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the SUN Home Hospice Care Center, Sunbury.

He was born March 7, 1925, in Snyder County, a son of the late Frederick and Carrie (Long) Rathfon. On June 1, 1946, he married the former Fae E. Hood who survives.

Eugene attended Rand Schools in Mifflinburg. He later served with the Army during World War II from Aug. 9, 1943 until his honorable discharge on April 20, 1946.

He retired in 1986 from the Selinsgrove Center.

Eugene was a member of the American Legion Post 25, Selinsgrove.

He was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening and traveling, including two visits to the state of Alaska. He also enjoyed following his favorite sports teams, the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and Penn State. However his grandchildren were very special to him and the greatest joy of his life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Eugene A. Rathfon Jr., of Selinsgrove, Jerel D. Rathfon, of Endicott, N.Y., Robert E. and Lori J. Rathfon, of Selinsgrove, and Anthony L. and Kelly L. Rathfon, of Dauphin; nine grandchildren, Andy, Tammy, Leslie, Dave, Chris, Michael, Michelle, Brooke and Baylie; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Freeman and Dottie Rathfon, of Mifflinburg; and one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Marlin Reber, of Mifflinburg.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald P. Rathfon on July 30, 2004; and eight siblings.

Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Dietmar Plajer officiating.

Burial follow in Shreiner’s Cemetery, Selinsgrove.
