LEWISBURG — Charles T. Sober Sr., 96, of Lewisburg, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.
Charlie was a 1941 graduate of Bucknell University, Lewisburg, and a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. During World War II, he served in Europe in the Artillery/Intelligence branches of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division. He served heroically during the Battle of the Bulge campaign and received numerous military awards and decorations for his service.
After the war, he spent more than 30 years in senior management positions at General Electric’s Appliance Park in Louisville, Ky.
He always cherished his affiliation with Bucknell University and moved back to Lewisburg in the late 1970s. As a proud alumnus of Bucknell, Charlie was always involved in campus events and in community service with the Lewisburg Lions Club, Meals on Wheels and First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan Brown, of West Des Moines, Iowa; one son, Charles T. Sober Jr., of Tampa, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Harry and Blanche Sober, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Annabelle Sober, Margaret Sober and Martha Davis; and one brother, Marion Sober.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Bucknell University to the Charles T. Sober Sr. Scholarship Fund.
