NORTHUMBERLAND — Esther I. Hickey, 90, of Second Street, passed away early Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at the Sunbury Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Freeburg, a daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Arndt) Kissinger. In 1959, she married William K. Hickey who survives.
Esther was a 1940 graduate of Freeburg High School and later graduated first in her class form the Episcopal School of Nursing, Philadelphia.
She was employed early on as a Registered Nurse at the Selinsgrove Center and the Warren State Hospital. Later she began to study bookkeeping and gained employment with J.G. Ott Packaging, Selinsgrove.
Mrs. Hickey was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Sunday School Class 20.
Esther enjoyed cooking and spending time with her husband on their daily walks and canoe trips on the Susquehanna River.
In addition to her husband, Esther is survived by two nephews, William and Jerry Kissinger, and one niece, Debbie Kratzer.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William Kissinger, and one sister, Ella Smith.
At Esther’s request there will be no viewing. Friends and family are invited to visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 326 Sixth St., Northumberland, where the funeral service will begin at 11 with the Rev. Cynthia J. Gunter officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
