MILTON — Vennie J. Boyles, 80, of 8 Park Lane, passed away at her home on Nov. 4, 2012.
She was born March 26, 1932, on a farm in Franklin County, N.C., a daughter of the late Fred and Emma (Gephart) Jones.
Vennie was a 1950 graduate of Mills High School, Louisburg, N.C., and the Henderson Business College, Henderson, N.C. She then moved to Washington, D.C., with her sister, Shirley, and friend, Nan, and worked as a secretary at the Pentagon.
On Aug. 30, 1952, she married Lt. Robert M. Boyles II, and together they raised four children, Kay, Bob, Mark, and Jim. During her years as an Army wife she lived in or visited France, Monaco, Germany, Austria, Spain, and Italy, and also lived in Virginia, Michigan, Illinois, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.
After moving to Pennsylvania, Vennie worked as an Avon representative and as a salesclerk and seamstress for the Calico Cat, Lewisburg. She retired in 1999 from Boscov’s in Selinsgrove after selling custom window treatments and furniture for 15 years.
Vennie always had a vegetable garden and also grew roses and African violets. She was a great cook and was known for her yeast rolls and German sweet chocolate cakes. She enjoyed reading, sewing, classic movies, history, Renaissance art, trips to the beach, shopping at Macy’s and Dries Orchard, and dining out at Red Lobster. Vennie was devoted to her family, especially her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley Paquette, of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Bob Boyles, and by a grandson, Jess Boyles.
A memorial service for Vennie will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Hurley, Riverside, officiating. Preceding the service will be a period of visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon at noon.
Donations in Vennie’s memory can be made to Susquehanna Valley Women in Transition, P.O. Box 170, Lewisburg, PA 17837, or to a local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
