Joanne L. Ficks, 83, New Columbia

NEW COLUMBIA — Joanne L. Ficks, 83, of Nittany Mountain Road, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013.

She was born March 9, 1930, in Milton, a daughter of the late Charles F. and Bertha M. (McCracken) Waltman. She was married for 63 years to John M. Ficks III, who survives.

Joanne loved her family, and her favorite times were spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Joanne and her husband, John, owned and operated the Nittany Mountain Campground for 22 years in New Columbia.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Milton, and a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lewisburg. She also was a member of the Milton Women’s Club and served on her class reunion committee. In addition, she helped to organize the Ramsey Reunion School picnics held at the farm for many years.

Joanne enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, reading, antiquing and gardening in her many gardens at her farm. She loved planning get-togethers for any occasion, especially a hot dog roast on the spur of the moment with her family.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, John IV and Kathy Ficks, Constance and John Kline, Marty and Robert Fox, Jeff and Kim Ficks and Michael and Amy Ficks, all of New Columbia; 13 grandchildren and spouses, John Ficks V, of Winfield, Matthew and Jamie Ficks, of Watsontown, Samantha and Rick Russell, of New Columbia, Michelle Adkins, of York Haven, Heather and Jess Brinser, of Liverpool, Corey and Tricia McLaughlin, of Summerville, S.C., Scott Fox, of Milton, Todd and Alicia Fox, of Jim Thorpe, Josh and Joey Ficks, of Elkland, Erynn, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Terry Rager, Bryce and Lane Ficks, of New Columbia; 19 great-grandchildren, John VI, Jordan, MaKenzie, Daryann, Ella, Cassondra, Ashley, Daniel, Elijah, Racii, Carley, Sierra, McKenna, Cody, Eathen, Leda, Klaire, Cade and Mauve; five great-great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and John VII, Lillian, Charlotte and Audree; two sisters, Patricia Waltman, of Lewisburg, and Sandy Beaver, of Selinsgrove; and seven brothers, James Waltman, of Lewisburg, Robert, Richard and George Waltman, of New Columbia, Harry Waltman, of Milton, Boyd Waltman, of Wasilla, Ark., and Donald Waltman, of Watsontown.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Joyce, in infancy, and three brothers, Charles Waltman, of Delaware, Thomas Waltman, of Lewisburg, and William Waltman, of New Columbia.

Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Patricia A.T. Pittsnogle officiating.

Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Milton.
