WATSONTOWN — Richard L. Middleton, 77, of 90 Middleton Drive, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at his home.
Born April 9, 1935, in the same house in which he died, he was the son of the late Ralph and Anna (Frederick) Middleton. On March 1, 1958, he married Genevieve Zielinski, and they recently celebrated their emerald anniversary.
Dick, a 1953 graduate of Milton High School, was employed by, and retired from, the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He also farmed at the family homestead, where he, later in life, built and operated Middleton Country Crafts. Dick’s shop was known for its matting and framing — and sharing a cup of coffee with friends.
He was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in McEwensville and was a member of Watsontown Masonic Lodge 401. He also served a nine-year term on the zoning board of Turbot Township.
Dick enjoyed his Friday night poker game with the guys and a close scoring match-up on Monday night football.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by four sons and daughters-in-laws, James and Wendy Middleton, of Watsontown, John and Cindy Middleton, of Mill Hall, Thomas and Pam Middleton, of Wilkes-Barre, and William Middleton and Loice Swisher, of Ambler; one daughter-in-law, Donna Middleton, of Milton; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by a son, Robert Middleton.
In keeping with Dick’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral. In the near future, a celebration of life will be held in St. John’s United Church of Christ, McEwensville.
In lieu of flowers or similar niceties, the family recommends that contributions in Dick’s memory be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 129, McEwensville, PA 17749, or Geisinger Home Care and Hospice, 109 Woodbine Lane, Danville, PA 17821.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown.
