David H. Short Jr., 75, Coal Township

COAL TOWNSHIP — David H. Short Jr., 75, of 848 W. Pine St., passed away on Monday afternoon, Aug. 30, 2010, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

He was born May 9, 1935, in Harlan County, Ky., a son of the late David H. Sr. and Lora (Stewart) Short. On June 13, 1985, he married the former Connie R. Kessler Gaugler, who survives.

David served in the Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956. He was honorably discharged with the rank of private first class.

He was a truck driver, driving over the road for different trucking companies, and for the past 10 years, he drove for Stadium Dirt Designs, Elysburg.

He was a member of American Legion Victory Post 25 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631, both of Selinsgrove, and AARP.

David enjoyed western movies, but the passion of his life was trucking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Brenda S. Gaugler and companion Danny, of Coal Township; two sons, Eugene and Tina Gaugler and Michael Gaugler and companion Janeen, all of Selinsgrove; six grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Diane Short, of South Bend, Ind., and Charles and Barbara Short, of Louisville, Ky.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Barbara Wolfard, of Clarksville, Ind., Patsy Harmon, of Harlan, Ky., and Billie and Eric Bailey, of Wallins Creek, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one nephew, Scott Short, whom he considered a brother.

Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Bob Pyle officiating.

Burial with military honors by American Legion Victory Post 25 and VFW Post 6631 will be in Globe Mills Cemetery, Middleburg.
