SUNBURY — Chester A. Mowery, 78, of 3160 Route 61, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Danville, a son of the late Charles and Maude (Hill) Mowery. On Aug. 10, 1955, he married the former Jane Kerstetter who survives.
Chester was the owner/operator of Chester A. Mowery & Son Excavating, along with his son, Kevin.
He was a member of the Millers Crossroads United Methodist Church, CEPA Coon Hunter’s Club, the Moline Gold Collectors Association and a life member of the Stonington Volunteer Fire Company.
Chester enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as collecting Minneapolis Moline tractors, coon hunting, wood working and camping.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by two daughter and sons-in-law, Deb and Mike McPherson and Karen and Tim Brandau; one son, Kevin Mowery; one daughter-in-law, Judy Mowery; grandchildren, Heather and Tony Nickey, Amanda and Seth Jackson, Teresa Blue, fiance of Jesse Whary, Andrew Derr, Melissa Brandau, Matthew Brandau and Danielle Mowery; great-grandchildren, Brayden Derr, Connor Nickey, Taylor Nickey, Makenzie Jackson, Maelyn Jackson, and Nolan Whary; one brother and sister-in-law, Archie and Peggy Mowery; one sister, Geraldine Ramage; one sister-in-law, Linda Mowery; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Chester J. Mowery; two brothers, Daniel and Lamar Mowery; and one brother-in-law, William Ramage.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, followed by the funeral at 11, at Millers Crossroads United Methodist Church, Stonington, with Pastor Michelle Beissel officiating.
Committal services will follow in Millers Crossroads United Methodist Church Cemetery.
