Romayne E. Hoffman, 86, Northumberland

NORTHUMBERLAND — Romayne E. Hoffman, 86, of Hanover Street, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

She was born Aug. 9, 1926, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Calvin E. and Emily (Gaskins) Gresh. On Oct. 29, 1949, she married Franklin A. Hoffman, who survives.

She was a 1944 graduate of Northumberland High School. Romayne was a majorette for the school band as well as the Calhouns Boy Band.

Romayne was a secretary for Foster Furman at the Furman’s Cannery before dedicating herself to her family as a wife and mother.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northumberland, where she attended the adult Sunday school, taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir. She also was a member of Northumberland Grange 218.

Romayne enjoyed reading and doing word puzzles and greatly adored the company of her cat, Mitzi.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Carey F. and Gale M. Hoffman, of Shamokin Dam, and Franklin C. and Judith A. Hoffman, of Northumberland; six grandchildren, Christopher and Jeremy Hoffman, Anita Williams, Bryan, Michael and Kara Luden; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin and Thomas Gresh, and one sister, Lois Diehl.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service for Romayne at noon Friday in Riverview Cemetery, Seventh Street, Northumberland, with the Rev. MarthaSue Moll officiating, and assisted by Lay Minister Carol Black.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Romayne’s memory may be made to her church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, 300 Queen St., Northumberland, PA 17857.

Arrangements are by the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland.
