Gary E. “Scootie” Hoke Sr., 72, Freeburg

FREEBURG — Gary E. “Scootie” Hoke Sr., 72, of Freeburg, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at his home.

Gary was born Aug. 17, 1940, in Freeburg, a son of the late Clarence and Pauline (Musselman) Hoke. On May 27, 1967, he married the former Patricia “Pat” Steininger, who survives. His passing breaks a loving marital union of 45 years.

Gary retired after 36 years of service from Wood-Mode Industries, Kreamer. He formerly was employed at Freeburg Manufacturing.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Freeburg, the Freeburg Fire Company and the Freeburg Recreation Association. Gary was a former member of the Selinsgrove Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1173.

Gary enjoyed walking, gardening, cooking for the fire company, recreation association gatherings and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Annette and Mike Buckley, of Oriental, and William Hoke, Gary II and Ronie Hoke, and Paula Hoke, all of Freeburg; seven grandchildren, Michael Glass, Allyson Buckley, Joshua Hoke and his companion, Roxy Harp, Seth Hoke, Colin Hoke, Jonah Erb and Kaitlyn Hoke; one great-grandson, Blake; seven brothers and sisters-in-law, William “Sam” and Sylvia Hoke, of Salem, Francis and Margie Hoke, Richard and Mae Hoke, Charles and Jenny Hoke, Donald and Nancy Hoke and Robert and Donna Hoke, all of Freeburg, and David Hoke and his companion, Darlene, of Shamokin Dam; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Gearhart, Dorothy Hinkle and Marlene and Robert Trautman, all of Freeburg, Betty and Jay Kessler, of Troy, Ohio, Judy and George Connolley, of Lewisburg, and Patti and Bill Whitmyer, of Montandon; many nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Mim Bowersox, of Hummels Wharf; and father-in-law, Warren “Bud” Steininger, of Selinsgrove.

He was preceded by his first wife, Linda Hoke; one sister and brother-in-law, Ada and Joe Treaster; two brothers-in-law, Earl Gearhart and Milford Hinkle; one sister-in-law, Charlotte Hoke; a special nephew, Ritchie Hoke; and his mother-in-law, Charlotte Steininger.

Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the funeral at 11, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Church and South streets, Freeburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Timothy W. Bingman, officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Freeburg.
