SUNBURY — Rodney E. McAllister, 70, of Sunbury, passed away at his home on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012.
He was born Oct. 12, 1942, in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Harry and Anna (Bredbenner) McAllister. On June 17, 2006, he married his girlfriend, Brenda, who survives.
Rodney was a 1960 graduate of Danville High School.
He was a self-employed insurance agent working for Baltimore Life, Banker’s Life, Americare, and recently Geisinger Gold.
He was a life member of the Washies Fire Co., Danville, Americus Hose Co., Sunbury, and the Northumberland Hook & Ladder Co., Northumberland, a member of Masonic Lodge 22 Free and Accepted Masons, Sunbury, and Sunbury Elks Clubs.
Rodney enjoyed attending clam bakes, playing poker with the guys, and going to the Power Line Hunting Club in Susquehanna County where he would meet up with his friends Harry and Charlie Mathias and Jimmy Collins. Rodney loved life and had fun wherever he went, always providing anecdotes for all life’s situations. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs, his best friends, Nicky and Abbyrose.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rodney M. and Ruby McAllister, of Augustaville, and Zachary A. and Jenny McAllister, of Sunbury; grandchildren, Quinlin, Emma and Adelyn; stepchildren, Joshua Funk, of Harrisburg and Matthew Funk, of Sunbury; two brothers and sister-in-law, Ralph and Shirl McAllister, of Elizabethville and John McAllister, of Danville; sister-in-law, Vonnie of Danville; four nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday followed by the funeral at 11, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 501 Catawissa Ave., Sunbury, with the Rev. William Petri, chaplain at Geisinger Medical Center, officiating.
Burial will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rodney’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Geisinger Children’s Hospital, or Mostly Mutts.
