MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS — Fred E. Baumgardner, 62, of Red Hawk Lane, passed away at 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in the emergency room at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born Aug. 16, 1950, in Lewisburg, a son of Jessie Ann “Sue” (Smith) Baumgardner, of West Milton, and the late Calvin Frederick Baumgardner Jr. On April 16, 1981, he married the former Emily A. Holton, who survives.
Fred was a 1968 graduate of the Lewiburg High School and had earlier attended Milton schools.
He served in the Marine Corp. in Vietnam where he was discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
He retired in 1996 after 22 years of service as a corrections officer at the Federal Penitentiary in Lewisburg.
He was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Brethren Church in Lewisburg, where he had served as treasurer.
He enjoyed movies, music, and his computer, and golfing with his father prior to his passing.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are one sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and William Baker, of Mazeppa; one stepdaughter, Nancy Shoop, of Guam; one stepson, Frank Shoop, of Lebanon; three step-grandchildren, Casandra and Amelia Jo Uhrin, and Steven Shoop; and one niece and one nephew.
Friends and family will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 2 with Pastor Dave McCarty officiating.
Private burial will be in the Globe Mills Cemetery.
