Mary E. (Gill) Hiller, 85, Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT — Mary E. (Gill) Hiller, 85, of Williamsport, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012.

She was born Feb. 11, 1927, in Salem, Snyder County, the youngest of seven children to the late Flossie (Knouse) and Rinaldo Gill. On April 20, 1946, she married Gordon Hiller and spent 66 glorious years with him.

She graduated from Selinsgrove High School in 1946.

Mary was a member of Montoursville Order of Eastern Star and a member of the following Granges: West Branch 136, Eldred 1604, Shermanata 1796 in Perry County and Bottle Run 1301. She held various offices in the local counties, Pomona and state Grange and was a national Grange delegate during her membership of 66 years. She also was First Lady of the Pennsylvania State Grange, where she volunteered from 1992 to 1996, and she personally and graciously greeted Pennsylvania governors Robert Casey, Tom Ridge and Edward Rendell and President Bill Clinton. Mary was recognized for her promotional sales of the famous Grange Cookbooks. She was president of the Lycoming County Extension Committee in 1977 and associate director of the Lycoming County Conservation District.

Mary was a faithful farmer’s wife and a mother of four daughters and four foster children. She hosted farm vacationers and was active in family, church and Grange with a response of “I’d be delighted” when asked to perform any duty. She referred to herself as “Mary, mother of many” as she offered her motherly love to all adolescents who were kind to her. She was matriarch of the family and matron of her household. Mary was a versatile farm hand, hostess, cook and seamstress at the Margor Manor Farm in Eldred Township, where she shared her name with Gordon.

Surviving are her husband, Gordon L. Hiller; four daughters and sons-in-law, Constance and Paul Missall, of Williston, Fla., Kathy and Gary Clees, of Pennsdale, Karla and Richard Dass, of Williston, Fla., and Vickie and Mike Reed, of Defiance, Ohio; also Dorland “Butch” Hanford, of Williamsport, Sheila Hanford Bucher, of Womelsdorf, Gary F. Yaw, of Williamsport, and Russell Hetrick, of Turbotville; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dan Gill, of Selinsgrove; and several nieces and nephews from Selinsgrove.

A special “thank you” to our bestest friend, newest “sister” and care giver, Helen Collins, of Williamsport.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Heshbon Park United Methodist Church, 2898 Heshbon Road, Williamsport, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Flowers will be provided by the family.
