SELINSGROVE — Leslie Lynne Lauver Nipple, 53, entered eternal life on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, following a 21 year courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Lewisburg Feb., 10, 1959, a daughter of Dorothy Taylor Lauver and the late R. Landis Lauver. On Oct. 3, 1987, she married Lorne R. Nipple.
Leslie graduated from Middleburg High School in 1977 and earned her bachelor’s degree in office management from Bloomsburg State College in 1981.
She began her career in Washington, DC working for National Association of Manufacturers. The birth of her first nephew and her father’s health concerns concreted her decision to return to Snyder County in 1984 and was employed as personal secretary for Dr. Henry Hood, CEO of Geisinger Medical Center. She also worked in the accounting department at Excel Homes in Mifflintown.
Together with her husband Lorne and her brother Brad, Leslie played a key role in establishing Heister House Millworks, Inc. in July 1988. At the time of her death, she was special projects coordinator for the company.
Leslie was quite adventurous, she loved to travel and greatly appreciated learning about other cultures. She enjoyed cruises, several trips to Europe, and especially Playa del Carmen, Mexico, her “home” away from home. Leslie enjoyed reading, collecting antiques, especially of the Victorian Era, and restoring her Victorian home, “Beulah.” She loved cats and welcomed a stray kitten, “Henry” to her new home.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, where she served on the council, was vice president of WELCA, and sang on the choir. She was also a member of the National Parks Conservation Association and a life member of the Snyder County Historical Society.
In addition to her mother and husband, Leslie is survived by her brother, Bradley K. Lauver and wife Bonnie; her sister, C. Diane Schreffler and husband Stephen; brother-in-law, Chriss Nipple and wife Trish; sister-in-law, Teresa Nipple and her friend Dale Engle; brother-in-law Shannon Nipple and wife Leanna and her mother-in-law Donna Nipple; nephews, Adam A. Lauver, L. Drew Schreffler, Kyle Nipple, Joshua Engle, and Jordon Engle; nieces, Alyssa A. Lauver and Joselyn Nipple; her special friend and “second sister”, Beverley Owens; her close friend Juan Baker, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Leslie was preceded in death by her father, her paternal grandparents, Ryan Lee and Ellen Landis Lauver; her maternal grandparents, Leon Emory and Kathryn Grubb Taylor, and her father-in-law Bob Nipple.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday and again on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills. Officiating will be her pastor Rev. Andrew C. Weaver.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, c/o Mrs. Edna Zechman, Treasurer, P.O. Box 172, Middleburg, PA 17842 or to a charity of the ones choosing.
The George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills has been entrusted with the arrangements.
