Hilda L. Kuhns, 97, Greenbrier

GREENBRIER — Hilda L. Kuhns, 97, of Greenbrier and for the last seven years a resident at the Friendly Nursing Home, Pitman, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, two days before her 98th birthday, at the Friendly Home.  

She was born Nov. 22, 1914, in Greenbrier, a daughter of the late George C. and Verdie (Geist) Mattern. In 1938, she married Wilfred E. Kuhns who preceded her in death in 1957.

Hilda was a 1933 graduate of Upper Mahanoy Township High School, Leck Kill.

She retired from Dormar Manufacturing Co., Gratz.

Hilda was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Sunday school, Leck Kill, and a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America.  

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bryant Rothermel, of RD Dornsife; two grandsons, Chris Rothermel, of Rebuck and Corey Rothermel, of Oakland, Calif.; two great-granddaughters, Amy Moran, of Montoursville, and Kelli Rothermel, of Mechanicsburg; one stepgreat-grandson, Anthony Cressinger, of Rebuck; and nieces and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Woodrow Mattern, and one sister, Helen Snyder.

A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Leck Kill, where the funeral service will follow at 11 with Pastor Jane Compton officiating.  

Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Leck Kill.

Memorial contributions in Hilda’s memory may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 4330 Schwaben Creek Road, Leck Kill, PA 17836.
