LEWISBURG — Eleanor M. Clark, 92, of 945 Fairground Road, Lewisburg, and formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Evangelical Community Hospital.
She was born Feb. 16, 1920, in South Nyack, N.Y., a daughter of the late Robert Henry and Mabel Beatrice (VanHouten) Clark.
Eleanor was a 1939 graduate of Nyack High School. She worked for the U.S. Department of Defense for 30 years. While working for the Navy’s nuclear submarine division, she was an inspector and monitored the quality level of various defense contractors. She was proud of her involvement with the work on Apollo 7 space shuttle mission. Eleanor retired in 1979 and received letters of commendation for doing her part, especially as a woman, in the defense department.
She attended Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg.
Eleanor was a member of the Shikelimo Chapter of D.A.R. and the Oneonta, NY Chapter, of D.A.R., where she was a former regent treasurer.
She enjoyed sailing and traveling the world. Eleanor had a great interest in genealogy and belonged to the Association of Blauvelts Descendents, where she was a past officer.
Surviving is a cousin, Barbara Bollinger, of Williamsburg, Va.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her lifelong friend, Vivian Newstrom in 2006, and two cousins, Wallace and James VanHouten.
A graveside service will be held at noon Tuesday in Oak Hill Cemetery, 140 N. Highland Ave., Nyack, N.Y.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions be made to Katie’s Table, Women of the E.L.C.A., 8765 West Higgins Road, Chicago, IL 60631.
