MIDDLEBURG — Atty. Irvin Graybill Jr., 89, of East Main Street, passed away at 6:11 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
He was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Sunbury, a son of the late Irvin and Sara (Crumleigh) Graybill. On June 26, 1959, he married the former Jane Summy, who survives.
Irvin was a graduate of Middleburg High School, Bucknell University, and Harvard Law School. He had also attended the Mount Hermon School, in New England. While at Bucknell, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Lambda Theta fraternities. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army in the Philippines.
Throughout his life, Attorney Graybill maintained a law practice in Middleburg as well as serving as Snyder County District Attorney and also teaching business law at Susquehanna University for 34 years. He had also owned and published the Middleburg Post for a number of years.
He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Middleburg, where he had earlier sang in the choir. He was a member of the Snyder Union County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations as well as the Heiser-Hoffman VFW Post 5640 and the American Legion Post 52, both of Middleburg.
Throughout the years he had been active in the Red Cross and scouting, and was a member of the local Chamber of Commerce. In 1993, he received the Boy Scouts of American Community Leadership Award. He was also active in the American Cancer Society and served as crusade chairman for several years, and also the Middleburg Area Recreation Association. He was a founding member of the Middleburg Industrial Development Corporation.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years, is a daughter and son-in-law, Ann E. and William Felter, of Lititz; two sons and daughters-in-law, John I. and Barbara Graybill, of Salinas, Calif. and Guilford I. and Elizabeth Graybill, of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Patrick Felter, and Madeline and Lillian Graybill; and one sister, Sara Houser, of West Chester.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, George Michael Felter, at birth; a sister, Phoebe Maneval; and two brothers-in-law, James Houser and Marvin Maneval.
There will be no viewing.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at the First United Church of Christ, Middleburg with the Rev. Joseph Lingenfelter officiating.
At the conclusion of the memorial service, the Middle West Veteran’s Association will accord military honors at the church.
Private burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg.
