DANVILLE — Peter J. Uhl, 71, of 708 E. Front St., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012.
He was born Oct. 4, 1941, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Harold and Mazie (Zimmerman) Uhl.
Peter was a 1960 graduate of Milton High School and served in the Army during the Vietnam War with the 864th Engineer Battalion from 1964-1966.
Upon his return, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. In his position as survey crew party chief he was instrumental in the construction of Interstate 80 and the Mifflinville Bridge. In 1976, he started his private survey company and became prominent in the Danville area. His survey and land development projects include many of the major private housing developments in Danville. His expertise was monumental in area projects such as the flood wall and recreational areas including the Hess Fields and Robbins Trail. One of Peter’s final projects was the PP&L Power plant in Washingtonville where he served as the chief surveyor to convert the plant to clean coal.
Peter was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Turbotville since 1972 where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors where he served as the state director for the Susquehanna Chapter. He also served on the Borough of Danville Planning Commission until the time of his death.
He enjoyed camping and hunting but his greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren whom he adored.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean M. Apple Uhl whom he married on May 24, 1969; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura R. and John Renno, of Danville; two sons, Harold H. Uhl, of Los Angeles, and Steven R. Uhl, of Danville; three grandchildren, Anderson, Janae and Chloe Renno.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 10 W. Mahoning St., Danville, and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, Route 54, Turbotville, where a celebration of Peter’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Ronald Bixler and the Rev. Philip Bishop officiating.
Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions in Peter’s memory may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 4134 State Route 54, Turbotville PA 17772.
