NORTHUMBERLAND — Katie “Marie” (Reiner) Gallagher, 101, of Nottingham Village Senior Living Community since 2004 and formerly of Sunbury and Klingerstown, died on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Nottingham Village.
She was born March 16, 1909, in Pitman, a daughter of the late Henry Y. and Katie (Rebuck) Reiner. She was married to Raymond Gallagher who preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1982.
Marie attended the Karterman School at Klingerstown.
She worked as a housekeeper in Shamokin in her early adult life and later worked for a publishing company in Harrisburg. After retirement Marie and Raymond owned and operated a furniture refinishing and upholstery business in Klingerstown.
A woman of strong faith, Marie was the oldest living member of Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church at Leck Kill, and was actively involved with the church and its quilting and Ladies Aid groups until moving to Sunbury.
She was a self-taught pianist and enjoyed playing for her friends and family, and while residing at Chestnut Towers in Sunbury she occasionally played piano at Sunday afternoon worship services. She enjoyed traveling with the senior citizen groups of Pitman and Sunbury. Marie will be remembered for her bubbly personality and her ability to cheer up friends that she visited while they were in the hospital or a nursing home.
She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Mary Reiner, of Pitman, and Paul and Kathryn Reiner, of Leck Kill; one sister, Ruth Stepp, of Phoenixville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one stepson, Donald Gallagher, two sisters, Anna Mull and Erma Snyder, and two brothers, Henry Reiner and Lee Reiner.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church, Schwaben Creek Road, Leck Kill, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating.
Burial will be in Jacob’s Cemetery, Pitman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marie’s memory may be made to Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church, 1128 Ridge Road, Klingerstown, PA 17941.
The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown has charge of the arrangements.
