Anna F. Bergamo, 90, Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE — Anna F. (Kashmere) Bergamo, 90, of Selinsgrove, formerly of Mount Carmel, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, amid loving family and dedicated staff at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove. She was a resident there since June 2008.

She was born May 12, 1922, in Mount Carmel, a daughter of the late Frank Kashmere who died in a coal mining accident in 1924, and Mary E. (Nodzak) Federeski. Her stepfather was the late Stephen P. Federeski. Anna was married in 1947 to Albert J. Bergamo who preceded her in death by nearly 50 years.

She was a 1936 graduate of St. John the Baptist Catholic School and a 1940 graduate of Mount Carmel High School.

Anna retired in 1983 from the Selinsgrove Center after 25 years in residential services.

She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Carmel, until the church’s 1992 consolidation, where she actively served on the Council of Catholic Women, and the “Pirorhy” and Bake Sale committee, the Rosary Society, and the church’s Centennial Committee. Thereafter, she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel, until her relocation to Selinsgrove when she joined St. Pius X Catholic Church. Anna remained dedicated to her daily Rosary devotion until her death. She was a volunteer at Sunbury Community Hospital from 1985-1991.

Anna was a loving, thoughtful and devoted mother. Her wisdom and sense of humor were surpassed only by her ardent loyalty to her Slovak heritage and to her religious and philanthropic convictions. She was a long term member of the First Catholic Slovak Union of America and the Humane Society of America. She dearly loved the pets she had throughout her lifetime.

Anna is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary N. (Bergamo) and Rick A. Musser, of Selinsgrove; one sister, Helen C. Fleming, of Mount Carmel; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one son, Stephen A. Bergamo who passed away in 2001.

A viewing will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 112 Fairview Drive, Selinsgrove, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with family friend, the Rev. Edward “Ted” Keating as celebrant.

Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg.

Memorial contributions may be made in Anna’s memory to St. Pius X. Catholic Church, 112 Fairview Dr., Selinsgrove, PA 17870, or The Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius Development Fund, Villa Sacred Heart, Danville, PA 17821, or to Far Point Animal Rescue, 1105 Red Hill Road, Port Trevorton, PA 17864.
