SUNBURY — William R. Hudson, 65, of Sunbury, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in Mifflinburg. He was known to family and friends as “Bill.”
He was born in Danville on July 11, 1947, the son of the late William G. and Isabelle M. (Hayes) Hudson. Bill graduated from Shamokin High School in 1965. After school he joined the Sunbury police force where he served for 21 years.
Bill always enjoyed cooking and after he retired from the police force, he purchased Pop Snyder’s Lunch in Sunbury. For the last 15 years he had enjoyed the time he spent in the restaurant socializing with friends and following his motto that “if you don’t like it my way, then you don’t get it at all”.
He spent most of his free time at his cabin where he enjoyed watching the bears and other wildlife. He especially could be found there during hunting season.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police and the Goodwill Hose Company, Sunbury.
On Oct. 26, 1991, he married Maryanne (Olcese) Hudson, who survives. In addition, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William and Christy Hudson, of Northumberland; one daughter, Beth Hudson, of Florida; step-children, Brad and Jeannette Gill, of Northumberland, Dawn Walburn, of Northumberland, and Brian Walburn, of Maryland. He was affectionately called “Grumpy Pappy” by his six grandchildren, Gwen, Megan, Samantha, Taylor, Keegan, and Bryleigh; one sister, Peggy Renkel, of Middleburg; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and close friend and ex-wife, Tina Hudson.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, McKinley; and one brother-in-law, Doug.
There will be no visitation and services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to the Pa. Fraternal Order of Police, 2949 N. Front St., Harrisburg, PA 17110; or to the Goodwill Hose Company, 500 Reagan St., Sunbury, PA 17801.
Arrangements are by the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury.
