Paul E. Strawser, Liverpool

LIVERPOOL — On Friday, March 15, 2013, Paul Eugene “Sonny” Strawser, of Oriental Road ended his courageous fight with lung cancer and has gone home to be with the Lord.

Paul was born June 2, 1943, in Liverpool, Perry County, a son of the late Norman “Snapper” and Verna (Stahr) Strawser. He married the former Nancy Slagle in 1962 who survives.

Paul attended South Pole Grammar Schoolhouse and then went on to graduate from Middleburg Joint High in 1961.

From earlier age he knew that he wanted to spend his life building things and enjoyed a hard days work. “Sonny” worked most of his career for Susquehanna Valley Bridge Construction in New Cumberland.

He was an active member of St. Paul’s (Leininger’s) Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant Mills, where he served on the church council, served as the church treasurer and was on Cemetery Association for many years.

He was also a member of the Gideon’s International, Oriental Valley Sportsmens Club, and Liverpool Fire Company.

Paul was adored by his family and friends. He loved life. He lived by the motto “quality of life over quantity.” In his free time, he enjoyed his family, friends, farming, hunting and in the his later years, he really enjoyed playing golf.

Paul is survived by three children: one son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Karen Strawser of, Strongsville, Ohio, and two daughters and two son-in-laws, Gwendylyn and Colin Houser, of Port Trevorton and Kimberly and Vaughn Barkley, of Liverpool; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren, Alexander, Amy and Emily Strawser, of Strongsville, Ohio, Lindsey Houser, of Port Trevorton, Joseph Meintel, of Liverpool and Lauren Barkley and Mandy School. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother in law, Katherine and Robert Delbaugh, of Liverpool and Patsy Goodling, of Millerstown; his mother-in-law, Grace Naylor Slagle; and extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Courtney Houser and his beloved father-in-law and good friend, Elwood Slagle.

Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 606 N. Front St., Liverpool, and again from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s (Leininger’s) Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Mills with the Rev. Timothy W. Bingman, officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
