RIVERSIDE — Daniel W. Wetzel, 85, of 330 Ave. D, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at his home.
He was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Sunbury, a son of the late Daniel W. and Elizabeth (Simpson) Wetzel. On June 27, 1953, he married the former Shirley L. Rowe, who survives. They celebrated 59 years of marriage.
He graduated from Sunbury High School in 1944 and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Daniel was employed for 38½ years by TRW Inc. in Danville, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Sunbury. He was a 50-year member of Sunbury Lodge 22, Free & Accepted Masons, where he served as master in 1954, a member of the Williamsport Consistory and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of American Legion Post 40, Danville, and a life member of the Southside Fire Company, Riverside.
His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William A. and Carol Ann Wetzel, of Riverside, and Daniel L. and Carla Wetzel, of Danville; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan R. and Ralph Newman, of RR Sunbury; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Nicole Wetzel, Danielle and Matthew Gantert, Dr. Allen and Chrissy Wetzel, Michael and Julie Wetzel, Melissa and Richard Stine and Matthew and Kristine Wetzel; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard E. Wetzel, of Sunbury.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth K. Apple.
Relatives and friends will be received from 10:30 to noon Thursday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 668 Renns Road, Sunbury, followed by a celebration of his life at noon with the Rev. Lori Betsworth officiating.
Burial will be private in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Selinsgrove.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
