Geraldine Pontius Libby, 89, Mifflinburg

MIFFLINBURG — Geraldine Pontius Libby, 89, formerly of Thompson Street, Mifflinburg, passed away peacefully at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, where she had been a resident since 2009.

She was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Union County, the daughter of the late Earl J. and Mary (Long) Derr.

Geraldine worked at the Selinsgrove Center, retiring in 1989.

After her retirement, she became a caregiver for 15 years for her son, Michael, until her health started to fail.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Bonnie Pontius, of Mifflinburg, John and Gail Pontius, of Middleburg, and Michael Pontius, of Mifflinburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Foster Bilger, Donna and Earl Steese and Deana and Donald Reber, all of Mifflinburg; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Willard Pontius; one son, Jeffrey Pontius; one grandson, Adam Pontius; three granddaughters, Jill Reber Solomon, Christy Pontius and one in infancy; stepmother, Sarah Geiswite Derr; and two brothers, Raymond and Donald Derr.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Dominick T. Adamo Funeral Home, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 2 with the Rev. Richard M. VonNeida officiating.

Burial will be in Hartleton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Geraldine’s memory may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
