NORTHUMBERLAND — Edith Elizabeth (Savidge) Kistner, 96, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, went to her heavenly home Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012. She leaves behind loved ones who have so many memories and blessings that she gave them.
Edith was born Oct. 7, 1916, a daughter of the late Gessie and Rebekah (Mettler) Savidge, of Rush Township, Danville.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, of Northumberland, where she taught Sunday school for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde O. Kistner, her three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Kistner and Clydean and Terrance Hoffman, of Hudson, Fla.; three grandchildren, Aimeé Hoffman, of Hudson, Fla., Adrienne Breed and her husband, Jeffrey, of Mifflinburg, and Jarett Lewis, of New York, N.Y.; seven great-grandchildren, Pandora Coit, Jessica Edwards, Julie Edwards and Mason, Ashton, Carter and Maxwell Breed; and nieces and nephews.
Edith had a deep love for her family and enjoyed running her household. She was a faithful and supportive wife while her husband served in World War II. She had an abiding love of country that she instilled in her children and grandchildren. “Edie” could always be found in the kitchen and enjoyed knitting and gardening.
She was active in Girl Scouting. In her later years, she loved to do her 100 exercises every day. She was an example of what a godly wife, mother and grandmother should be. She was truly a virtuous woman who taught her family many life lessons that we will spread and share with others. “A woman that fears the Lord, is to be praised.” - Proverbs 31:30. Edith would have wanted to share what was important to her, and that would be to know Jesus, live, walk, trust and rest in Him. Her family will cherish the memories of her faithful love for all, which was rooted in Jesus’ faithful love for her.
A celebration of Edith’s life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 309 Water St., Northumberland. Friends will be received before the service from 10 to 11.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Edith’s memory be made to the Northumberland Christian School, 351 Fifth St., Northumberland, PA 17857.
