HERNDON — James A. “Jim” Snyder, 77, of Herndon, passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at SUN Home Hospice at Sunbury Community Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Beverly (Hepler) Snyder; the couple married Saturday, Oct. 3, 1953.
Born Thursday, Jan. 24, 1935, in Rebuck, he was a son of the late Norman and Margaret (Robinson) Snyder.
He graduated from Mahanoy Joint High School in 1951.
Jim was the owner and operator of K & S Truck Lines for more than thirty years; upon selling the business he was employed by Penn Dot until his retirement.
Jim was an active member of Himmel’s Church and served on various councils.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Mahanoy Lodge # 551 of Dornsife, a lifetime member of the Herndon Fire Company and an active member of the former Dalmatia Ambulance Association.
He sponsored the K & S Softball team for 28 years and the K & S bowling team in Sunbury for more than 10 years.
Jim was a member and active with the Lower Northumberland Senior Center located in Herndon.
He was an avid pinochle player and a loyal Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He enjoyed following his grandchildren’s activities.
Surviving are three children and their spouses, Ricci and Jenny Snyder, of RD Dalmatia, Robyn and Jim Rinck, of Selinsgrove, and Jodi Smink, of Millersburg; four grandchildren, J. Cole Rinck, Laura Rinck, Travis Smink, and Jaclyn Smink; one great-grandchild, Braden Foraker; one brother, Gene Snyder, of Dalmatia; one sister, Martha Feger, of Dauphin; as well as nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by one grandson, Kip Snyder, and two brothers, Bill and Barry Snyder.
The viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Himmel’s Church, Rebuck, where the funeral will follow at 11 with the Rev. Jane Compton officiating.
The I.O.O.F Lodge will conduct their service at 10:50 a.m.
Burial will follow in Himmel’s Cemetery.
