WINFIELD — Milena Gobins, 93, of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
Milena was born in Trbovlje, Slovenia and worked for Siemens in Croatia and for the International Refugee Organization in Germany until her emigration to the United States. She was the executive secretary of the Community Music School, Buffalo, N.Y. until her marriage.
A long-time resident of Sunbury and Winfield, she was a member of the United Lutheran Church.
Her life’s passions were her family, music, especially singing, her church life, and cooking. She sang with the Susquehanna Valley Chorale for nearly 25 years, since its inception. She was involved with the Cub Scouts, Church Women United, and was an honorary patroness of Sigma Alpha Iota women’s fraternity of Susquehanna University.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, the Rev. (retired) Vitolds Gobins, Winfield; her son, Andrew Gobins, of Alpharetta, Ga., and her daughter and son-in-law, Marina and Jim Walchli, of Albany, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Lutheran Church, 167 Seven Points Road, Sunbury, with a visitaton from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made to the Worship and Music fund of the United Lutheran Church, or to a charity of the contributor’s choosing, if so desired.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
