LEWISBURG — Beatrice J. Rice, 82, of Judy Road, passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at her home.
She was born March 19, 1930, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Melvin G. Sr. and Mahala (Minium) Baker. She was married on July 17, 1949, to Samuel O. Rice Sr. Her death breaks a marital union of 63 years.
Beatrice was a 1948 graduate of Milton High School.
She worked in quality control at the Crunch ‘n Munch division of American Home Foods in Milton, retiring after 26 years in 1996.
She was a lifelong member of United in Christ Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, and was a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher.
Beatrice enjoyed bowling and CB radios. Her family was her pride and joy, and she enjoyed her time with them.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and his fiancee, Samuel O. Rice Jr. and Pam Wright, of Washingtonville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pam and Frank Packer, of Lewisburg, Gwendolyn Murphy, of Lewisburg, and Penny and Martin Golder III, of Milton; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Melvin G. Jr. and Mary Baker, of West Milton, and Floyd Baker, of New Columbia; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Verdilla and Walter Heddings, of West Milton, and Pauline Hauck, of New Columbia; nine grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Beatrice was preceded in death by two daughters, Gail A. Rice and Hazel Nachtway; two brothers, Kenneth A. Sr. and Harold Baker; and two sisters, Patricia Kerstetter and Cornelia Price.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N Front St., Milton. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in United in Christ Lutheran Church, 1875 Churches Road, Lewisburg, with her pastor, the Rev. Leah D. Schade, officiating.
Burial will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Lewisburg.
The family will provide flowers. Donations in Beatrice’s memory may be made to the United in Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 95, West Milton, PA 17886.
